Labour Spokesperson for Arbury Ward Jack Bonner has slammed the Tories for their hypocrisy on the project.

Conservative Councillors at Warwick Shire Hall have voted through the Bermuda Bridge Connectivity Project, ignoring most of the recommendations made by local residents during the consultation.

Conservative Councillors in Arbury claimed for years that they would stand up for residents on this issue, but they failed to stop their own Conservative colleagues from approving the Project.

The Project will be completed “on the cheap”, with no money available for the sensible alterations and improvements suggested for the Connectivity Project during the consultation process.

Jack Bonner, former Labour candidate for Arbury, said: “Conservative Councillors in Arbury have once again given in to their masters at Warwick Shire Hall. They knew that their own Conservative Cabinet at Shire Hall would see this through, but still pretended that they could prevent it from happening. Worst of all the Project is being done on the cheap- what happened to all the sensible recommendations made by residents during the consultation? These recommendations would have made the Project fit for purpose. This is, to all intents and purposes, a poor man’s western relief road.”

“Residents will feel thoroughly let down by these false promises from the Conservatives. Instead of having the integrity to tell people that the Conservatives at Warwick would be approving the Connectivity Project, local Conservatives lived in denial. It all smacks of opportunism.”

Jack added: “If Cllr Clare Golby feels so strongly about this issue, which she has passionately campaigned on for many years, she should do the right thing and consider her position. Unlike the local Tories, I never made false promises on this Project. I hoped that if the Conservative Cabinet did approve the Project, they would take on-board the feedback from the consultation. They have failed to do this and residents will live with the consequences of that.”
